Pledge to be a Hero!

What You Can Do
Businesses and organizations can help recruit blood donors by encouraging their employees (and their families and friends) to pledge to be heroes. Usually their “blood drives” are during a specific week or month at one of the Blood Bank’s convenient donor sites. Donors call the Blood Bank themselves to schedule an appointment.

How to Get Started

• Appoint a chairperson and a committee of recruiters.
• Meet with a Blood Bank representative who will provide you with materials, guide you through recruitment techniques, and answer your questions.
• Set a Pledge Goal as well as a target week or month.
• Create a plan to successfully recruit donors.

Why the Community Needs You
370 blood donors are needed every day for patients at hospitals on Delmarva. By sponsoring a HERO Blood Drive and encouraging people to pledge to donate blood, your business or organization will help save lives and have a positive impact on the community blood supply.

Tracking Donors
Remind your donors to fill out a “HERO” card when they donate. The Blood Bank uses them to track donations on behalf of your group.
